Notified Maximum Demand, and changing tariff
Notified Maximum Demand is the capacity you have contracted for. Exceed it and you attract excess network access charges every month you do. Set it too high and you pay for capacity you do not use. Getting it right, or moving to a tariff that suits how the site actually runs, is a piece of work Augos can do for you.
Excess charges
If excess network access charges appear on your bill month after month, your notified maximum demand is below what the site actually draws. The charges will persist and escalate until one of two things happens: you reduce demand below the notified figure, or you apply to the utility to raise the notified figure so it matches operational reality.
Neither is automatic. Raising the notified figure is an application to the utility and it carries conditions.
Changing tariff
Where a site is on a tariff that does not suit its load, a change can be worth real money. Three conditions apply to almost every such change and they should be understood before anyone starts:
- The notified maximum demand may need restating to meet the qualifying criteria for the target tariff.
- Once you change, you stay for twelve months. This is a utility rule, not an Augos one.
- There are cost implications. A deposit increase is common, and there may be infrastructure or meter adjustment costs. The utility quotes those once an application is submitted, so the full cost is not knowable in advance.
How Augos handles it
A high-level review of your invoices, to say whether a change looks worth investigating, is free. Ask for it.
A full cost analysis and report is quoted separately. Augos can also engage the utility on your behalf as a further piece of scope. In the arrangement used previously, the analysis is billed once the recommendations are implemented and visible on the utility billing, with a smaller analysis-only fee if you decide not to proceed.
What to do
- Send
support@augos.ioyour last three utility accounts and ask for a high-level review. - If the review looks promising, ask for the analysis quote.
- Where the site is leased, involve both the landlord and the tenant early. The notified demand sits with the supply, and both parties are affected.
