Fuel
For fuel, we measure what's in the tank and what's being burned, so stock and consumption are both visible.
1 · What we measure

Fuel is the utility most exposed to loss, so metering it is as much about stock as consumption. Tank level shows what’s on hand: a refill appears as a step up, normal draw-down as a slope, and a drop that matches no use is the signature of a leak or theft. On a standby generator, level and flow together show the fuel in the tank and the rate it’s burning during a run, which can be set against the electricity the generator produces to see how efficiently it turns fuel into power.
Because level is watched continuously, an unexpected drop raises an alert in Triggers and alerts as it happens, rather than being found at the next manual dip.
2 · How it's measured
Fuel level is read by a level sensor in the tank; flow and consumption come from a flow meter or pulse sensor on the fuel line. How often they report depends on the device and its power, a battery sensor on a remote tank reporting less often than a wired one. It's common on standby generators, where the platform shows both the fuel on hand and the rate it's burning while it runs.
The level sensor drops into the tank and the flow sensor fits on the line, so a tank or a standby generator can be brought online without modifying the fuel system.
3 · Hardware
The devices behind it:
- Pulse sensor, counts the pulses from a flow meter on the fuel line.
- Level sensor, reads tank level from a pressure sensor.
4 · Reports it feeds
Fuel is its own product on the platform, so it runs through every report except the three that are electricity-specific (power factor, tariff comparison and time of use):
- Dashboard and Consumption breakdown, for level, flow and use at a glance and across the hierarchy.
- Cost breakdown, Cost allocation and Bill verification, where consumption is priced, split across cost centres, and checked against the supplier’s delivery.

Every fuel reading is yours to take off the platform, three ways:

6 · Common questions
Can you detect fuel theft or leaks?
A continuous level reading makes an unexplained drop obvious: stock that falls without matching use stands out against the normal refill-and-draw pattern, and a trigger on tank level flags it as it happens.
Can you reconcile a generator’s fuel use against its output?
Yes. Fuel flow and consumption measured at the line, set against the electricity the generator produces, show how much fuel it burns per unit of power, which is the basis for spotting a generator running inefficiently.
Does the tank sensor need power or wiring?
No. The level sensor is battery-powered and reports wirelessly, so it suits remote and standby tanks. It reports less often to save battery while still tracking the level.
What does a refill look like in the data?
A step up in tank level, with normal use showing as a downward slope between refills, so deliveries and draw-down are both visible and a delivery shortfall is easy to see.
