Being told when a meter goes offline, and when a trigger does not fire

Ask support@augos.io to set up a communications-loss trigger on the points that matter. It emails you when a named point stops communicating for at least a day. This is worth doing on any unattended site, and it is not switched on by default.

Offline alerts

Customers regularly ask "is there any way we can get alerts when meters go offline?" There is. Ask for it on:

  • Sites nobody visits regularly.
  • Water points, where a fault is invisible until someone looks at a report.
  • Any point you bill a tenant from, where a gap in the data invalidates that month's recovery.

Send the point paths and the email addresses. The alert fires after a day of silence, which filters out brief network dropouts that resolve themselves.

When a trigger does not fire

Work through these in order:

1. Does the trigger still exist? Triggers can be lost when measurement points are restructured. This is the first thing to check and it has been the answer more than once.

2. Was the unit configured correctly? A trigger whose threshold is set in the wrong unit never evaluates true, so nothing fires and nothing looks wrong. The fix is to delete and recreate rather than edit.

3. Is the threshold in the right place? Confirm it against the site's actual profile. A threshold outside the site's normal range in either direction produces either silence or noise.

4. Are the recipients right? Recipients must be platform users. A phone number that has changed will silently stop WhatsApp and short message delivery.

5. Did it fire against the right point? A test notification showing a different measurement point name means the test was fired from another point, not that the trigger is pointing at the wrong place.

What to do

Email support@augos.io with the point, the event you expected to be alerted about, the date and time it happened, and the value it reached. Support can check whether a trigger exists, what it is configured with, and who is on the recipient list.

Still stuck

Email support@augos.io with the point path, the missed event and its timestamp, and the recipients who should have been notified.
