Setting up alerts and triggers

Triggers watch a value and notify you when it crosses a threshold. They are available to any user, and they can send by WhatsApp, short message or email. Ask support@augos.io to configure one, and give them the four things listed below.

What to send

  1. The measurement point. Which meter should be watched.
  2. The parameter and the threshold. For example demand above a set number of kilovolt-amperes, or power factor below a set value.
  3. Whether it should fire instantly, or only after the breach has persisted. A trigger can be set to require the condition to hold for a number of minutes, which filters out brief excursions.
  4. The recipients. Notification recipients have to exist as platform users, so send email addresses. Add a phone number for WhatsApp or short message delivery.

Say whether you also want a second notification when the value recovers. A trigger resets automatically once the value drops back through the threshold, and you can optionally be told when that happens.

Choosing a threshold

This is the part that decides whether the trigger is useful or ignored. Set it below the site's normal running band and it never stops firing. Set it too far above and it never fires at all.

Ask support to sanity-check your proposed threshold against the site's actual profile before it is configured. They can see where your demand normally sits and will tell you if the number you have in mind is in the wrong place.

What a notification contains

The measurement point name, the trigger description, the trigger details, and the timestamp.

Common uses

  • Demand. Alert before the site reaches its usual monthly peak, so equipment can be managed while it is happening. See Maximum demand and how to reduce it.
  • Power factor. Alert when power factor drops below a set value for a set number of minutes. Useful for catching correction equipment failing.
  • Communications loss. Alert when a named point stops communicating for at least a day. See Being told when a meter goes offline.

Still stuck

Email support@augos.io with the point, the parameter, the threshold, the duration, and the recipients with their email addresses.
