Downloading your data
Use Data Download. Decide four things before you start: which points, which sites, which file format, and what interval. Those are the same four questions support will ask you.
The four questions
- Which points? Main points only, or sub-points as well.
- Which sites?
- Which format? Comma separated values or Excel.
- What interval? Minute, half hour, hourly, daily, monthly.
Answering these in your first email removes an entire round trip.
Reading the file
Exports use a self-describing file name that carries the customer, site, point, serial, point identifier, the period and the interval, so a folder of exports stays navigable months later.
Two columns are worth understanding:
- The interpolate flag. Values that were filled rather than measured carry a flag. A value of 2 means "not on range". Filter on this before using an export for measurement and verification work, because a run of flagged zeroes is not genuine zero consumption and will skew a baseline badly.
- Time. Portal downloads are in local time. The application programming interface returns coordinated universal time by default. See API behaviour, time and limits.
If the download fails
- Hard refresh, then try again.
- If the dialogue will not populate the meter list at all, check whether the platform is having a problem before assuming it is you.
- Ask support to pull the file and email it. Do not wait on a fix if you have a deadline. See A page, download or report will not load.
Live display on a screen
Technical Analysis does not refresh by itself. Sites wanting a live demand display on a shop floor screen have used a browser auto-refresh extension set to a sixty-second interval. If the chart drops below the fold after each reload, zoom the browser out so the whole chart fits above the fold. This is a workaround, not a product feature.
