The automated bill verification emails

Augos sends two kinds of automated bill verification email: one saying a variance was found, and one saying no bill has been captured for a period. Neither means you have done something wrong. Both are prompts to look.

The variance email

It contains:

  • The tariff scheme name and the bill period
  • The Augos estimate and your captured bill figure
  • The variance as a percentage, calculated as the estimate minus the bill, divided by the bill
  • Who completed the verification and when
  • A comparison against the recent average across your verified periods, flagged as a noticeable change where relevant
  • A note where earlier periods have no bill captured
  • Three action links, and an unsubscribe link

The email itself lists the usual causes: the utility overcharging, incomplete metering (a meter offline, or one of several site meters not reporting), or a tariff configuration that needs updating.

The three links are requests to Augos, not self-service controls:

  • Have a billing expert investigate this
  • Check if I'm on the right tariff
  • Load and analyse my bills for me

Clicking one raises a request on the Augos side. It is worth knowing that these are not browse-safe buttons: a click generates a notification to support and someone will follow up.

The "verification not complete" email

This goes out when no bill has been captured for a period. It is a reminder, and the fix is either to capture the bill or to email it to support@augos.io and ask for it to be loaded.

What to do

  1. Read the variance percentage and its sign. A negative variance means the Augos estimate came out below the bill.
  2. Do not assume you captured it wrongly. Check the shape of the variance against Understanding a bill verification variance.
  3. If it is unclear, use one of the action links or reply to support@augos.io with the account attached.

Good to know

  • Customers frequently read a negative variance as their own mistake. It usually is not. The most common cause in the July and August window is the tariff changeover, not a capture error.
  • If the emails are going to the wrong people, or you want them to go to more people, say so. Recipients are configurable.
