What Bill Verification is, and how to capture a bill
Bill Verification compares what your utility charged you against what Augos measured and what your tariff says it should have cost. You capture the bill, the platform produces an estimate from your own metered data, and the difference is the variance. Doing it every month is what makes an overcharge provable.
Why it is worth doing every month
A verification only tells you something if you have a baseline. Sites that have never run one have nothing to compare a suspicious month against, and that is exactly when it matters. Where a genuine overcharge is found, a run of monthly verifications is what supports a claim.
It also proves your tariff scheme is right. Loading a tariff and never verifying it means you find out it was wrong a year later.
How to capture a bill
- Open Bill Verification for the measurement point. On a site with several points, be sure which one you are on. A single utility account can cover two metered points.
- Add the bill for the period.
- Enter the values from the account: consumption by time-of-use band where applicable, demand, and each charge line.
- Save, then check that estimate figures have populated. If they have not, the report needs recalculating. See The report saved but looks empty.
The date rule
Periods must run consecutively. A new period starts on the day after the previous reading date. If the previous reading date was 31 January, the new period starts on 1 February. Overlaps and gaps are rejected. See Date rules and "invalid date range".
If you would rather not do it yourself
A large share of bill verification work is done by Augos on behalf of customers who
simply email the account. That is a normal way to use the service. Email the
utility account as a portable document format file to support@augos.io and ask
for the verification to be run. This can be added as a monthly service to your account.
Good to know
- Tenanted sites often receive a landlord recovery invoice plus a utilities schedule rather than a municipal account. Those can still be captured, but say so when you send them, because the charge lines map differently.
- The variance is calculated as the estimate minus the bill, divided by the bill. See Understanding a bill verification variance.
