What is installed on your site
For electricity: a meter in or near the distribution board, a set of current transformers clipped around the conductors, an antenna, and a SIM for the cellular connection. For water: a pulse unit wired to your own water meter. Each device carries a serial number, and quoting it is the fastest way to be sure everyone is discussing the same equipment.
The parts
The meter. The Power Messenger is the three phase smart meter with a cellular modem. The Nova Meter is the newer unit going forward. Both sit in or beside the board they measure and carry a small display that shows signal strength, a file count, and any error. That display is the most useful diagnostic on site.
Current transformers. These clip around the conductors and scale the current down to a level the meter can read safely. They are what makes accurate measurement possible without breaking into the busbar. See Current transformers explained.
The antenna. Should be clear of obstruction and mounted as high as practical, ideally outside or above the board rather than inside it.
The SIM. The meter connects over a mobile network. Augos manages the SIM and can check its data allocation remotely.
Pulse units. For water and other pulse-output meters. The pulse unit does not measure anything itself; it counts pulses from your meter. See How water metering works.
Quality of supply loggers. Separate instruments, available for hire, for recording voltage dips, surges and other power quality events. Standard metering does not do this. See Power quality, dips and surges.
Serial numbers
Electricity meters are referenced by a serial beginning PM followed by eight digits. The last four digits encode the month and year of the batch, so PM…0324 is a March 2024 unit. Some device families use a longer numeric serial instead.
The serial is printed on a white sticker on the side of the unit. Photograph it when you are on site; it saves a return trip.
Measurement points are shown as a pipe-delimited path, for example
Company|Site|Building|Main switch. A point whose name includes a PM serial is a
physical meter; one without is usually a summation of the points beneath it.
Renaming points
Measurement point names on the platform can be changed at no charge. Email
support@augos.io with the current name and what it should be. Sites are often
commissioned with the electrician's naming and nobody thinks to change it.
Still stuck
Email support@augos.io with a photograph of the unit showing the serial, and the
site name.
